Drivetrain & Transmission
Transmission service, axles, differentials and clutch work.
Transmission symptoms frighten people more than they need to. A great many turn out to be fluid condition, a solenoid, a sensor, or a mount — not the internal failure everyone assumes and not the four-figure job they were braced for.
That is worth diagnosing carefully. We check fluid level and condition, scan the transmission module for its own codes, and road test with live data to watch what the transmission is actually commanding versus what it achieves.
On the drivetrain side, CV axles and driveshafts announce themselves clearly. A clicking on turns is a CV joint; a vibration that increases with speed is usually a driveshaft or a worn centre bearing.
Signs to watch for
- Harsh, delayed or flaring shifts
- Slipping — engine revs rise but the car does not accelerate
- Clicking or clunking on turns, particularly at low speed
- A shudder at steady cruising speed
- Transmission fluid that is dark or smells burnt
- Whining or humming that changes with vehicle speed
When to have it done
- Transmission fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles for most vehicles
- CV boots inspected at every oil change — a torn boot caught early is a cheap fix
- As soon as shifting behaviour changes
What K&K does
- Fluid level and condition check, and transmission module code scan
- Road test with live data before recommending any major work
- Fluid and filter service using the exact specified fluid
- CV axle, driveshaft, differential and mount replacement
