A tune-up on a modern car is not what it used to be. There is no carburettor to adjust and no distributor to time. What remains is the ignition and air side: spark plugs, coils, and the filters that feed the engine.
Those parts wear slowly, so the decline is easy to miss. Most people only notice how rough the car had become once it is running properly again — the misfire that came and went, the fuel economy that drifted down two miles per gallon over a year.
We match plugs to the manufacturer specification, including the correct heat range and electrode material. Putting cheaper copper plugs in an engine designed for iridium is a false economy that comes back within a year.
Signs to watch for
- Rough or shaky idle, especially when stopped at a light
- Hesitation or a stumble when you accelerate
- Fuel economy that has quietly slipped
- Harder starting, particularly on cold mornings
- A flashing check engine light — that is an active misfire, stop driving and call us
When to have it done
- Spark plugs typically every 30,000 to 100,000 miles depending on plug type
- Engine air filter roughly every 15,000 to 30,000 miles
- Cabin air filter about once a year, sooner if you park under trees
- Any time a misfire code appears
