The best money you will ever spend on a used car is the inspection you do before you buy it. An hour on a lift tells you things no test drive and no online history report can.
We put the car up and look at what a seller cannot easily hide — frame and underbody condition, evidence of accident repair, fluid leaks, rust, suspension wear, brake and tire life remaining — and scan every module for stored and pending fault codes.
You get a written report you can use. Sometimes it says walk away. More often it gives you a list of what the car will need soon and roughly what that costs, which is exactly the leverage you want before agreeing a price.
Signs to watch for
- You are about to buy a used car from anyone, dealer or private
- The history report is clean but the paint or panel gaps look inconsistent
- The seller is reluctant to allow an independent inspection — a serious warning in itself
- A price that seems too good for the mileage and year
