Fluid Services
Transmission, coolant, brake and power steering fluid service.
Every fluid in a car is a wear item. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air and its boiling point drops. Coolant loses the additives that stop corrosion inside the engine. Transmission fluid shears down and stops protecting the clutches.
None of this announces itself, which is why fluid service is the maintenance people skip and then pay for later. A brake fluid flush is inexpensive; a seized caliper and a corroded ABS module are not.
Fluid specification matters enormously here, particularly with transmissions.
Signs to watch for
- Brake pedal that feels soft or spongy
- Transmission that shifts harshly, hunts between gears, or slips
- Coolant that looks rusty, muddy or has debris floating in it
- Heavy or groaning steering, especially at low speed
- Any fluid puddle under the car — note the colour and call us
When to have it done
- Brake fluid roughly every two to three years regardless of mileage
- Coolant every 30,000 to 100,000 miles depending on the type used
- Transmission fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles for most vehicles
- Whenever a fluid is discoloured, low, or smells burnt
What K&K does
- Test brake fluid for moisture content before recommending a flush
- Full exchanges rather than drain-and-fill where the vehicle allows it
- Fluid matched to your vehicle’s specification
- Pressure-test the cooling system to find leaks before refilling
